So in response to all of the reviews that reduce the stars for Shannon's based on the idea that a) the place is supposed to be Irish and b) that because of that there should be shepherds pie, fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, bubble and squeak (blah blah blah....) on their menu: you have it all wrong. Ok, here goes. Shannon is a river in Ireland that Americans like to name their children after, sort of like Potomac or Severn (makes total sense, right?). So you would never find a human being on Ireland named Shannon. So your expectation that Shannon's restaurant would be Irish is your bad. Almost every restaurant in the country serves Guinness, so that doesn't mean anything. The Guinness served in this country isn't even the same drink they make in Ireland. Now the most insulting thing you can do to any Irish person is to pin British culture on them. The Irish have been at odds with the British for a very long time, and though there is a cease fire in effect, it's still sort of a sore subject. So all of the dishes listed above that are, in fact, NOT IRISH, are a huge insult, so stop associating them with my country. I have never seen any of these items on an Irish menu or dinner table, with the exception of fish & chips, which you can get almost anywhere. Corned beef & cabbage is an American dish that you would not find in England or Ireland. Now Shannon's is an Italian owned saloon that has a solid Maryland menu with Lobster on Mondays... Bam! You really can't argue with that! The menu is small and straight to the point. I love the food there. It is always consistent. It's not fancy or terribly expensive. The people who work there are busy, but they do their best! They are good with large groups. They've got a bb assortment of appetizers, legit crab cakes, and all the basics. I've been coming here for decades, and I'm pretty sure I will keep going here for as long as they are here!

Dinner on a Tuesday night, a rainy Tuesday night in fact. Located of RT 40 in a strip mall I was not impressed entering this establishment with very 1980's tables, bench seats, dark woods and let's overlook the dark greens. What was good was the food. I had a filet minion medallion sand which with onion rings. Very, very good sandwich. Cooked perfectly and tender. Onion rings well done just as I like them and all for a good price! Our server was great. Pleasant and professional. Kept the beverages full. Very attentive. It's obvious the people overlook the decor because the place was packed. What's important here is the food and service and they get that right.

This is a great local favorite. I probably eat here once a week. I have never gotten anything that wasn't good. The standard menu ranges from full dinner platters to sandwiches and salads. Some of my favorites are: shrimp salad, crab cakes, prime rib, and fried shrimp. Management and staff are excellent.

It's a mix of Irish public house and a American eatery. Menu wise less than 4 dishes are truly Irish inspired, which leaves me wondering what their concept really is at Shannon's. My customer service was friendly, but it didn't make up for the lackluster food and drinks we experienced. Mostly everything here at Shannon's were generic preprocessed foods, which made the dining experience dull. On average most entrees are priced roughly around $15+. For example, a french onion soup we had was less than decent and sloppy thrown into a bowl, overflowing, which resulted in a crusted film leaking all over the cup. Cocktail wise everything is over poured, and though a lot of the menu's options sound like a good drink concept, Shannon's fails to execute when it comes down to taste; everything is too strong. Beer wise you'll find Harp products and some bottles of American Macrobeers (e.g. Budweiser). It's an average bar / restaurant which is somewhat dull -- 2 stars.

This is one of the better restaurants in the area. My husband and I were very happy to find this place as we are pretty dissapointed with the quality of restaurants around here. We've only ever sat on the bar side and have always had good service and good food. The crab dip is great and I love the tuna melt. The french onion soup was delicious. Definitely one of our go-to places for a nice meal. There are a lot of items to choose from on the menu and always a long list of specials. It is a bit odd that it's advertised as an Irish pub, but there is literally nothing on the menu (from my recollection) that is Irish. You can get Irish beer and that's the extent of Irish fare they serve.

I have been working in the Ellicott City area for almost 8 years and been to Shannon's dozens of times for lunch. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal or bad experience there. This is a local restaurant/pub which always seems to have a steady crowd and usually busy. The crowd is older and most of the customers are regulars. Everything is fresh, hot, and of high quality. I usually sit at the bar and the service there has always been friendly and attentive. My favorite is the BBQ chicken salad with honey mustard dressing. One of my all-time favorite salads. If you are looking for a great neighborhood restaurant or pub, this is the place to go.

Ok, to be completely fair, it's called Shannon's "Saloon", not Shannon's "Pub"... But beyond that everything about Shannon's would imply an Irish restaurant from the gratuitous use of shamrocks to the Ireland green color used in the sign, outside, throughout the interior, and on the menu. Guinness is also prominently served on tap in the "Saloon" side of Shannon's. But this is where Shannon's ties to the land of Saints and Leprechaun's begins and ends. Beyond the Guinness on tap, Shannon's menu doesn't offer a single nod to Irish cuisine: no Fish n Chips, no Shepherds Pie, no Irish Stew, no Bangers n Mash, no Corned Beef n Cabbage, no Bubble n Squeak, no Soda Bread, and not a Ploughman's Lunch to be found... Shannon's is a very traditional "American" restaurant, with a very traditional American / Maryland menu that includes the obligatory crab dip, crab soup, crab cakes, crab topped chicken Chesapeake. Throw in a handful of American Italian dishes, New York deli inspired sandwiches, the House Specialty Meatloaf and you've pretty much got the picture. There's really nothing on the menu that stood out as anything more than cafeteria style food served at restaurant style prices. Shannon's appears to cater mainly to the over 60 retiree community looking for early dinner specials, and there's nothing wrong with that. But if you're looking for a taste of Ireland, Shannon's isn't the place to go.

Poor Customer Service (and by the Maitre D') We went to Shannon's and my wife ordered the salmon. When the salmon arrived, it did not look so good to us and tasted awful. People at our neighboring table (whom we had been talking to) also had the similar impression. In fact, the gentleman said, "It looks like 2 to 3 day old fish that they had thrown in the microwave." We expressed our concerns to the waiter, and he brought a woman employee over. After she heard our concerns, she said, "It looks fine to me." She then asked, "What do you want?" I asked, "Does it really look fine to you?" I then mentioned to her that the two people at the next table also had the same impression of its poor quality, and asked again, "does it really look fine"? She repeated that it really looked fine to her. It was hard to re-order as it might come back the same way. I then asked the woman who she was. She indicated she was the Maitre D' and that her husband was the chef. The Maitre D' then told me, "You are being very rude." I countered that she had exhibited poor customer service skills in her reaction to our concerns. She then said that she was becoming very uncomfortable and asked, "Do you want to leave?" Feeling that we had little choice, we decided to leave. Fortunately, there are a number of restaurants nearby where customer service is more highly valued.

The food at Shannon's is far superior to that of a normal pub, and rivals the quality of many nice restaurants.. I've been eating at Shannon's on a regular basis for several years, and always sit at the bar. Among my favorites are the Chevy Chase wings, French onion soup, and blackened salmon over a house salad. They have nightly specials, including Prime Rib on Tuesday, which is incredible! Many of the specials are culinary treats that you don't find everywhere else. If you see the Southwest BLT, definitely try it. This new twist on an old favorite features jalapeno bacon and avocado slices, in addition to the LT.

For context, I've been to this place three times and have only sat at the bar area. The service has always been prompt and friendly. I would not call this place a dive, but rather a solid neighborhood bar. The tap selection is nothing to write home about, but I'm not coming here to be satisfy a need to have a unique IPA. I'm here to relax and chat with those around me. The first couple times I went here, I had your normal pub fare, burgers, fries, wings etc. All quite good, but nothing special. The last time I went, however, I had the corned beef. I'm not sure if it's a regular item or if it was only available for St. Patrick's Day, but wow. It. Was. Amazing. I don't pretend to be a corned beef expert, but it was easily the best I ever had. If you're looking for a casual place to grab a beer and a bite and chat with your friends, this is a great neighborhood spot.

A good neighborhood restaurant in HoCo. I liked Shannon's meatloaf but your mileage may vary. Salmon in puff pastry looked tasty. Otherwise, the food is fine for a local pub-restaurant, but nothing out of the ordinary. The wait staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful the times I've been there. A wide variety of beer, wine, and spirits are available from the bar out front. And for some reason, the restaurant at Shannon's Saloon seems to be highly favored by blue-hairs. There can be a sizable contingent of elderly people eating in the dining room.

Love. Shannon's. the bartender on Tuesday nights makes the best cosmos ever. Strong not too sweet and a wonderful hint of lime. Also their beef tenderloin sandwich and crab dip are yummy. They always have nightly specials that are god including lobster and prime rib

I go to Shannon's a lot. Usually get good food, then tonight tried the Italian Trio. It really only deserves one star and that is being nice. The meatballs were horrible, the sausage tasteless and the amount of cheese on top made it uneatable. Really poor meal. I guess you don't choose Italian food in an Irish restaurant. It's a shame to only give 2 stars, but the meal was that bad.Think I'll stick with my old favorite , The New Yorker sandwich.

"Take a good look around" is the code we use when we don't plan to return to a restaurant. I used it tonight as we left Shannon's. We eat at Shannon every few months and have always has good service and good food. Tonight was our server's first day so he was shadowed by the "general manager," at least that was how she introduced herself. My issue is with the "general manager and not the newbie server. When I asked about a beer on tap, she replied she didn't drink beer so she didn't know about it. (Note that this establishment has "Saloon" in the title. How could the general manger not be able to answer a question about beer? Or at the very least try to find out?) Of the 3 dinners we ordered, Shannon''s was out of one and partially out of another one. Of course we found out about the outages in 2 separate visits to the table by the general manager. The partially out one was 2 soft shell crabs. The manager informed me that the kitchen had only one left and if I wanted it, the restaurant would modify the price. When I asked what the modified price was, the general manager said she didn't know and would have to check with the kitchen. In both "out of specials" situations, the general manager never really apologized or tried in any way to be nice about it. While this may have been bad day, treating customers as bothersome is never acceptable. This general manager's whole attitude soured us on this restaurant.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Shannon's has gone down hill since the recent change in management. The food is still fairly decent; however, the service is terrible. My server was extremely rude and actually tried to pick a fight with my friend and me over a mistake she had made. The manager had to come over and ask our waitress to calm down and leave us alone but after that, the manager just walked away and acted like nothing happened. My friend and I were both so stunned by the situation and extremely disappointed that we never received an apology or anything from either the waitress or the manager. We will certainly never go back to Shannon's after the way we were treated and would recommend others to stay away.

If you are looking for a good casual dinner then Shannons is the place. Don't expect gourmet, it isn't. . Good fresh food, quick service, reasonable prices. The tenderloin sandwich is tender, served on great french rolls with fries or whatever substitution you ask for. The sweet potato fries are great. They offer dinner specials thru the week, Wed is Fish night and I can highly recommend their salmon. Crab Cakes are also excellent and I really like their Angus burgers. Dinner salads need some work, mostly iceberg lettuce but always fresh. Vegetables are not cooked to death. The desserts are luscious: they get them from SugarBakers in Catonsville and they are to die for. Pimlico Cake is awesome but my favorite is the lemon cake, four layers of delectable light cake! The decor is old and drab, lots of wood booths and tables. Lots of seniors .There is usually a wait between 6 and 7 but not long. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
